3-Day Cao Bang Motorbike Tour – Off-the-Beaten-Path Adventure in Northern Vietnam

This 3-day Cao Bang motorbike tour takes you deep into Vietnam’s rugged Northeast, a remote region famous for towering karst mountains, hidden caves, ethnic villages, and powerful waterfalls. Starting with an overnight sleeper bus from Hanoi, the journey leads you through rice fields, mountain passes, and historical landmarks rarely seen by mass tourism.

Along the way, you’ll explore the spectacular Nguom Ngao Cave, stand at the foot of the legendary Ban Gioc Waterfall, and stay overnight with welcoming local Tay and Nung families. This is an adventurous yet well-organized experience, rich in culture, nature, and authentic local encounters – truly far from the usual tourist trail

08:00 PM – Meeting point & preparation
Your adventure begins in Hanoi. We will pick you up from your hotel, or you can go directly to the meeting point at Cheers Hostel (No. 5 Au Trieu Street). Here, you can store your large luggage, enjoy a tea or coffee, and meet your fellow travelers.

09:00 PM – Sleeper bus to Cao Bang
Transfer to the bus station and board a comfortable overnight sleeper bus heading north to Cao Bang. You will arrive early the next morning, with time to rest at a local hostel and enjoy a light breakfast before the motorbike journey begins.

07:30 AM – Meet your guide & prepare for the ride
Meet your friendly local guide, get fitted with your motorbike and safety gear. You can choose to ride your own motorbike or join as a passenger with an experienced driver.

Morning – Ma Phuc Pass & ethnic villages
Ride through scenic countryside and ascend Ma Phuc Pass, one of Cao Bang’s most beautiful mountain routes. Your first cultural stop is Dìa Trên Paper Village, home of the Nung people, where traditional bamboo paper is still handmade using centuries-old techniques.

Continue to a traditional blacksmith village, where locals forge farming tools by hand using open fires and heavy hammers.

12:00 PM – Local lunch & homestay check-in
Enjoy a hearty local lunch, then check in to your homestay in Khuổi Kỵ Ancient Village, a peaceful Tay village famous for its stone houses and authentic rural atmosphere.

02:00 PM – Explore Nguom Ngao Cave
Visit the impressive Nguom Ngao Cave, stretching nearly 2 km beneath the limestone mountains. Walk through chambers filled with sparkling stalactites and rock formations shaped like dragons, turtles, and mythical creatures.

05:30 PM – Dinner & cultural experience
Return to the homestay to relax and enjoy a home-cooked dinner with your host family. In the evening, share stories and a few toasts of local rice wine (“happy water”) in true Cao Bang style.

08:30 AM – Ban Gioc Waterfall & Truc Lam Pagoda
Ride to Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Asia, located on the Vietnam–China border. Take a sampan boat ride close to the falls to feel the mist and power of the cascading water.

Afterward, climb around 300 steps to Truc Lam Zen Pagoda, where you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the waterfall and surrounding karst mountains.

12:00 PM – Lunch near the waterfall
Enjoy a fresh local lunch at a nearby restaurant before continuing the loop.

02:00 PM – Angel Eye Mountain
Head toward Angel Eye Mountain, a unique karst formation with a perfectly round hole in its center. Walk through open grasslands to the base of the mountain, or if conditions allow, enjoy a peaceful kayaking experience on the nearby lake.

05:00 PM – Return to Cao Bang City
Ride back to Cao Bang City and check into your next homestay. Relax and enjoy a well-earned dinner after a day filled with incredible scenery.

Ride to the Pac Bo Historical Site, where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked after returning to Vietnam in 1941. Visit Coc Bo Cave, his former shelter, and the crystal-clear Lenin Stream. Learn about the early days of Vietnam’s revolution in this remote and symbolic location.

11:30 AM – Farewell lunch
Return to Cao Bang City for a final local lunch and say goodbye to your guide and travel companions.
